And, away we go!!

What better date than the first day of spring to debut a new website dedicated to finding the cheerful moments in each day? Maybe you’ve had a long winter… you’re chilled to the point where you just can’t warm up enough… you’ve scraped and scrubbed all the road salt from your blue suede shoes for the umpteenth time, and you are ready to let the sun’s warmth soak into your soul and ease the brain freeze from your Piña Colada.

Spring is a great time to be reminded of the joy that’s all around us.  Yeah, maybe it’s now mud season, and we still have some rainy, or even snowy, days ahead, but we can finally see the glimmer on the horizon of sunny skies, budding trees and clean car mats (I realize this analogy is lost on those of you who live in sunny climates, but let’s face it – you’re already soaking up your recommended daily dose of vitamin D and, if you’re reading this first post, you are probably a friend or relative who lives right here in the northeast)!

Wherever you live, and whatever your circumstances, I offer you this challenge today:  I want you to look around and think of five things that have already given you cause for joy today.

  1. When I look to my left, I can see a peek of sunny sky outside my office window.
  2. To my right is the aisle that leads to some of the most glorious co-workers I could ever ask for.
  3. Some dearly generous soul replaced the empty dish soap in the office pantry so I can actually wash my sticky fork while breathing in the pretty smell of freshness.
  4. Speaking of sticky forks, I just enjoyed a lunch of sweet tomatoes and mozzarella mixed with fresh basil that I grew myself while decompressing for a few minutes over a rousing game of Sudoku on my iPad, which means I made good use of my leftovers and saved my lunch money to use later on a chocolate chip cookie!
  5. And, last but not least, I get the satisfaction of knowing that I’ve now officially kicked off my first blog post after a looooooong period of being paralyzed with indecision and uncertainty.  Phew! Now that I’ve started, where do I stop??

If there is one important thing I’ve already learned in this process, it’s that it takes a shit-ton of work, dedication, effort and patience to develop a website, set up social media accounts, get locked out of said social media accounts for no apparent reason, pick a logo, select a color scheme, consider email subscriber options, change my mind on the color scheme… and the logo… and the theme… and get locked out of my account again (!!!!!), all while working full time and living a busy and productive life.  I hope to post weekly, and my goal is to develop bonus content for subscribers who want a daily dose of cheer, whether through email, Facebook or Instagram, so please bear with me while I get things up and running and develop a routine.  I have a lot to learn!  I hope you will enjoy the effort.  Cheers!!

P.S.  Did you know that yesterday, March 20th, was the United Nations International Day of Happiness?  I’m sticking that sucker on my calendar.  World happiness??  What a great excuse to smile! This year’s theme is Happier Together – focusing on what we have in common, rather than what divides us.  For more info, check out https://www.dayofhappiness.net/#join

We’ve had some commenting snafus today. This is a test comment to see if I’ve been clever enough to resolve the issue. Fingers crossed!
